LOTR: Sting
The sword Sting was made famous in the predecessor to Tolkiens incredibly
popular series the Lord of the Rings. In this book the primary character
finds a sword which was smithed by Elvish artisans for the destruction of evil.
The sword was then passed down to Frodo the primary character in the Trilogy.
Sting was a beautifully crafted weapon that was used as a sword for the Hobbits,
but was more of a long dagger for Men and Elves. It had the unique
ability to detect the presence of Orcs, which caused the weapon to glow blue.
The creators of the Lord of the Rings have created a weapon one would
imagine after reading the books. Sting is a weapon whose shape shows the
author of its’ design. Elves first created this weapon and Elves were
invariably linked to all the goodness of nature. The shape of the blade
therefore, shows more of a leaf-like appearance. It has a cross-guard with a
hilt inscribed with Elvish patterns of flowing curves.
As such, Sting is a beautifully crafted blade, that when hefted, feels a
blade worthy of the its’ ancestral heritage. The Sting blade would be most
pronounced when displayed as part of a collection, without which, such a
collection would feel utterly incomplete. Sting has a beautiful blade that
would be at home displayed prominently in a room with fine furniture with a
contemporary feel, as well as in a room with stone accents retaining a more
rustic feel. In either setting, the blade Sting from the Lord of the Rings will
surely be a conversation topic in whatever setting it finds itself.
